  WORKING MODELS

The construction and operation of scale working models offers both problems and pleasures not found with static models. Choice of a suitable subject is all-important, especially for those that are sail driven. However, all pose problems of ‘scale effect’ in relation to weather, watertightness and the intricacies of control. Suitable construction and ballasting are vital. Radio control has enormously increased the ability to replicate the handling of vessels, whether square riggers or powered models with multiple engines and gadgetry. The keys to a first class model are: good subject choice, accurate and detailed scale appearance and atmosphere, reliability and a totally realistic performance on the water. Sailing such a model gives enormous satisfaction. Armchair sailors all!
